It was another great day of offshore powerboat racing at Thunder On The
Gulf Super Boat Grand Prix in beautiful Orange Beach, AL. Thirteen boats in all competed in two races, and
once again the wind stirred up waves making challenging conditions for the
competitors. Seeing a boat out of the
water was a common sight as thrilled spectators packed the beach.
The real battle of the day came in the Superboat class as William Mauff and Jay Muller with WHM Motorsports in
their 40 foot Skater took the win over JD Byrider and their 38’ Skater. Team STIHL finished third, Spirit of Qatar
was fourth followed by CRC in fifth, and Ricks Collision in sixth after their
boat flipped coming out of turn two on the third lap. Both the driver and throttleman safely got
out of the boat as rescue divers arrived.
Other teams that had first place finishes in their respective classes were, Miss
Mary Mac - Turbine Class, Lucas Oil Silverhook – Superboat Extreme Class, Phantom
– Superboat Vee Class, ATC – Superboat Stock Class, and Black Pearl –
Manufacture #3 Class
The next race for Super Boat International will be in one month July 5-7 at Sarasota
for the 29th Annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Festival.
