Monday, 24 June: Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club has reached an agreement of ‘technical cooperation’ with American racing legend and owner of the highly successful Marine Technology Inc, as they look to step-up their bid to win the Class 1 World title. “We have many ambitious plans in order to make the emirate of Abu Dhabi the capital of marine sports racing,” said HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. “This will give us great benefits in the future.
“We have various plans to promote Abu Dhabi and to boost tourism,” he added. “The participation of various teams from Abu Dhabi in all competitions helps to achieve this goal. We want to be at the very pinnacle of all forms of racing.”
A delegation from Abu Dhabi met with Scism on a recent visit to the MTI facility in Wentzville, Mo, USA and signed an agreement that will see the former Victory throttleman overseeing the development, design and build of a new Class 1 raceboat with a view to rolling it out for the 2014 season.
The project will also focus on developing the marine boat building industry in Abu Dhabi. “We are ready to provide all the necessary team work to provide the expertise for co-operation in this exciting project. We are proud to have been chosen to provide the technical support and we are sure that this will open the door for greater benefits for both parties.”
Scism was a major factor in the success of Abu Dhabi rivals Victory Team in the 90’s, winning 10 Grands Prix and finishing on the podium 24-times, winning the World title in 1999 with Ali Nasser.
Wentzville-based Marine Technology Inc. (MTI) is one of the largest manufacturers of race boats in the world and has over 25 years’ experience of marine technology and innovation, and in 2008 a MTI boat carried JornTandberg and Inge Brigt Aarbakke to the Class 1 European title.
