BREVARD COUNTY• COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — There is a silent killer in Florida that continues to claim victims. Brevard County, like many areas around America, does not have the best technology available to address this killer and is often unprepared to deal with it.

Rán Racing on top of the worlds after three race wins in Miami
Rán Racing excelled in the stronger breezes, blowing from an offshore direction which brought some fast downwind runs in the puffy, gusty wind which peaked at 22kts in the first race and which eased down to 12-13kts at times in the second as a frontal system moved through.
From the four races sailed so far Rán Racing have won three in a row, whilst Day 1’s strong starters Azzurra did not manage to replicate their same top scoring consistency today. Although they lead early in the first race they were overhauled by Rán Racing and Interlodge on the first run.
At the first leeward mark the reigning 52 SUPER SERIES champions had to take a penalty for infringing Interlodge but they did fight back for a useful third. Then in the second race Azzurra faded to a fifth, their worst score of the regatta so far, which dropped them to second overall, one point behind the new leaders.
Doug DeVos’ Quantum Racing also made points against Azzurra thanks to their solid second and third for the day, holding third overall. But only three points separate Rán Racing from Quantum Racing at the top of the eight boat fleet.

World’s Best Female Surfers Light Up Superbank for Round 1 Roxy Pro Gold Coast
RAINBOW BAY, Queensland/Australia (Sunday, March 3, 2013) – The world’s best female surfers got down to business today as Round 1 of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented Land Rover was completed in clean, three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at Rainbow Bay.
Event No. 1 of 7 on the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, today’s Roxy Pro Gold Coast plays first opening of the season to the most impressive collection of female surfers for the sports history.
Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 22, continued to prove why she is a perennial threat to the ASP Women’s World Title this afternoon, posting an impressive 17.77 out of a possible 20 in a convincing Round 1 win.
“It was really good to have a great battle with Sofia (Mulanovich) out there at the start,” Fitzgibbons said. “I really wanted to go out there and push myself. Silvana (Lima) and Sof were really flaring in that heat so it was a lot of fun. It depended on what you caught and what you had to work with. I was really stoked with the waves I caught and how I surfed them.”
Lakey Peterson (USA), 18, took top honors today, posting a near-perfect 19.13 out of a possible 20 in Round 1 of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast at Rainbow Bay.

Parkinson to Begin ASP World Title Defense at Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast
Queensland Australia, 25 February, 2013 : - - The world’s best surfers have descended upon to southern end of Australia’s Queensland for the opening event of the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) season, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover, held from March 2 – 13, 2013.
Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, reigning ASP World Champion, is only nine weeks removed from clinching a long sought after maiden world title, but is already noticing the change in his pre-season preparation.
“It’s been a fairly hectic off season,” Parkinson said. “I’ve certainly enjoyed my title win, but there have been a lot of requests from media and just having everyone congratulate me. It’s a nice problem to have, but after a few weeks of it, I was keen to get back in the water and just focus on my surfing.”
While the transition of becoming ASP World Champion has required some adjusting, the stylish natural-footer admits that the win has been refreshing and he’s entering 2013 with a relaxed mindset.
“Winning the title has definitely removed a big amount of pressure for me,” Parkinson said. “I feel great now and loose and ready for the season. I’m healthy and keen to surf at 110% every wave and every heat.”
