The SuperStock powerboat racing will follow a 1.75-mile lap in front of the Plaza Resort and Spa. There will be four heats of 8 to 10 laps per heat, plus the match race qualifying heat. Current race leaders Jason and Tom Morton in their Morton Water boat will be working hard to stay ahead of former champions Andy Biddle and Tracy Blumenstein of Team Pro Boat, who are on their way home from victory in the opening round of P1’s UK series. The husband and wife teams of Gene and Paula Weeks in CI Alpha and Cynthia and Craig Belfatto of Livorsi will be looking to make their mark after returning from a six-week break.
“We’ve been looking forward to racing in Daytona with its unique motorsport heritage and pedigree,” said championship manager Azam Rangoonwala. “There’s no better place to launch the P1 AquaX series here in the USA.”
Eric Lagopoulos, a multi-time World and US National Champion and two-time Guinness World record holder, will be one of the AquaX USA competitors this season. With more than 20 years of race experience, Lagopoulos will be a great asset to newer racers while also giving them a run for their money.
“When you race on the ocean, anything can happen,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m excited to be involved with the series.” Lagopoulos is sponsored by SeaDoo, RIVA, Jettribe, Hydroturf and Scott Goggles.
