Tuesday, 19 February: After weeks of intensive preparation in Dubai, Zabo Racing’s team principal Jan Zaborowski is confident that the team will pick up in China where they left off in Abu Dhabi at the end of last season - on the podium.
The team has focussed its attentions on improving the balance of the boat, optimising set up options and safety. “We have learned a lot about the boat since we first ran her in Norway in 2011. Now was the time to make the adjustments that we wanted too,” said Zaborowski. “We have worked on the engines and gearing set-ups to maximise the torque curve of the V8, moved the engine mountings forward to improve the overall balance and performance, and changed the exhaust configuration.”
The team has also invested heavily on safety, adding fortified crash zones to the sides of the cockpit, strengthened the front bulkhead and the escape hatch. Inside the cockpit they have strengthened the seat mountings and lowered the seats to give the drivers more headroom clearance.
The line-up inside Zabo-Isiklar remains the same with Turkey’s Ugur Isik and Norway’s Christian Zaborowski starting their third consecutive season together and aiming to build on last year’s fourth overall in the points table - Zaborowski senior confirming they will run the same Mercury 850 V8 engine package with either Five Axis or Hering props an option for them.
