A Great Day For Racing At The Mayor’s River Fest – Paddleboard Race Series

New Smyrna Beach , FL (February 16, 2013) –  With near-perfect weather and ideal racing conditions, the first stand up paddleboard race of 2013 the Mayor’s River Fest attracted over 70 racers of all ages and abilities to beautiful New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  Racers competed in a 4 mile long course or a fast 2 mile sprint, with the course taking racers through a protected lagoon, canal system and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Top men’s long course finishers included overall first place and 14’ division winner Andrew White, 12'6" division winner Jason Meehan and rec division winner Ned Johnson.

Top women's long course finishers included overall Women's first place and 12’6 division winner Jessica Cichra and rec division winner Kathy Shepard.

Top men’s short course finishers included overall first place and 14’ division winner Terry Perkins, 12'6" division winner Eric Woertz and rec division winner Justin Hayska.

Top women's short course finishers included overall Women's first place and 12’6 division winner Evey Hammon and rec division winner Amanda Crostic.

“We're incredibly excited to bring stand up paddleboard racing back to New Smyrna Beach with Mayor Adam Barringer. During this four race series paddlers will see a variety of different courses. The series is designed to offer courses fun and light for those new to SUP and also a slightly more difficult course for those looking to advance their fitness or to keep skills sharp.  This is absolutely beginner friendly,” says Erik Lumbert of Paddleboard New Smyrna Beach.

"We couldn't have asked for a better day," adds Mayor Adam Barringer. "Turnout for the event has been amazing and incredibly motivating.”  He told the racers, "I will paddle with you in the next event this year."
