Di Benedetto to be slowed down - Vendee Globe Ocean Race

After Tanguy de Lamotte (Initiatives-coeur) exultantly crossed the Vendée Globe finish line in tenth position on Sunday morning after 98 days, 21 hours and 56 minutes spent sailing around the world, Alessandro Di Benedetto is the only skipper left in the race. As of Monday morning, the French-Italian skipper was progressing east at more than 13 knots of average speed. With more than 330 miles covered over the last 24 hours, the 8AM (UTC) rankings put him at less than 800 miles from Les Sables d'Olonne and 400 miles away from Cape Finisterre, where the Team Plastique skipper will probably be slowed down by slow winds (around 5 knots). These are not the 1998 Finot-Conq-designed monohull’s favourite weather conditions, which is why Alessandro Di Benedetto is not expected to cross the 2012-2013 Vendée Globe finish line before the end of the week – on Friday morning – after a little bit more than 100 days spent at sea.
