Jamie Sterling Scoops Victory At Nelscott Big Wave Surfing
By RedBull.com Team -
Jamie Sterling stomped airdrops down 25 foot bombs to beat Greg Long and Gabriel Villaran in the final of the Nelscott Big Wave paddle event. Nelscott Reef sits half a mile out to sea in Lincoln City, Oregon (just up the beach from Spanish Head), in cold, deep water – a really rugged big wave zone, and the kinda place that will really put an electric thrill in a man's veins. Which is just the kinda thing Jamie digs.
The Hawaiian had to wait until the award ceremony to find out if he'd won, and in the gap between leaving the water and climbing the podium, he had no idea how he'd done. "I had a good feeling I was in the top three," he said. "I felt good about the waves that I caught in the final. But you never know until they announce it, so it was about two to three hours of suspense." But, ain't that moment of discovery the sweetest fruit?
The Big Wave World Tour now moves to Baja, in Mexico, for the Todos Santos Big Wave Event. You can be sure Jamie will be right in the mix of that one, too. Don't miss a beat.
