San Francisco, 8 June, 2013; Luna Rossa Challenge and ORACLE TEAM USA were on the San Francisco Bay racecourse today, practicing maneuvers in winds from 10 to 12 knots. The sailors wore clothing that illustrated the safety recommendations put forward by Regatta Director Iain Murray. Luna Rossa sailors had hi-viz orange stripes on their helmets and personal flotation devices with extra padding. ORACLE TEAM USA’s sailors wore suits with hi-viz orange sleeves and patches on the shoulder straps of their PFDs.
The Louis Vuitton Cup, America’s Cup Challenger Series, resumes tomorrow featuring Emirates Team New Zealand, which yesterday scored the first point available in the regatta. The Kiwis are scheduled against Artemis Racing. The Kiwis face the likelihood of sailing the racecourse unopposed once again because Artemis has previously announced the earliest it would be ready to race is the second half of July. Yesterday, Emirates Team New Zealand completed the racecourse unopposed when Luna Rossa Challenge opted not to race until the International Jury decided the protest that is being heard today.
Tomorrow’s action on the water will be broadcast on the America’s Cup YouTube channel (subject to territorial restrictions), beginning at 12:00 pm PT.
