Stormy skies and humid conditions greeted the P1 SuperStock crews at the weekend as they rolled into Lake Okeechobee for round 3 of the P1 SuperStock USA Championship. The weekend saw a packed schedule of racing, with both Rounds 2 and 3 of the Championship being staged in Pahokee after Round 2 was rescheduled from Daytona Beach when rough seas forced racing to be cancelled.
In Saturday's qualifying session, the Team Pro Boat duo of Andy Biddle and Tracy Blumenstein came out on top in a close battle with Boatwrench and in the opening race they notched up an easy win with their pole position. But it was a different story in the next race, with the grids reversed it was the turn of Craig and Cynthia Belfatto to take the honors in their first win of the season. Pier 57 and Cl. Alpha had a great battle for 2nd place, with father and son team Bill and Elijah Kingery coming out on top in Pier 57.
As thunder clouds rolled in on Saturday lunchtime the afternoon's racing had to be cancelled due to a lightening storm. But the crews were back out on a cooler Sunday to do battle. Pro Boat took the honours in race 3 after battling with Morton Water, who finished second followed closely by Boatwrench
In Race 4 it was the turn of husband and wife team Livorsi to pick up their second win of the weekend. Pier 57 and Cl. Alpha again battled for second place, but this time Cl. Alpha secured the number 2 slot after some immensely close racing. Team Pro Boat picked up their third victory of the weekend in the fifth race, winning by a considerable margin ahead of Livorsi. Whilst newcomers Scott Yutah and Lee Baker picked up a time penalty for spinning out and missing a buoy.
In the final race of the weekend, Team Pro Boat took their fourth win of the weekend after battling with newcomers Scott Utah & Lee Baker in Space Coast. Livorsi finished third.
With three teams finishing on level points for Round 3 races, the overal Podium positions for the Grand Prix of the Sea event were decided using fastst lap times, with Boatwrench coming out on top of Pier 57 and then Cl. Alpha. Championship Manager Azam Rangoonwala commented "It's been an amazing weekend of close racing. We have seen different winners and even the new boys fighting for second at the end of the weekend, showing just how even the grid really is. Thankfully, the wildlife of alligators and manatees all behaved over the weekend too!"
The next event for the P1 SuperStock crews is Cocoa Beach on August 17 and 18th.
