Artemis Racing flying on Big Blue / America’s Cup

1300 update
So much for taking it easy.

Artemis Racing was flying around the south Bay today on their first test sail of Big Blue, the team’s second AC72.

Despite vowing to ease into the program, the boat must have passed its initial tests well, as the team was leaping out of the water in winds reaching 12-14 knots.

While this is all very encouraging, it’s also clear there is some fine-tuning to do before the boat is matching the stability on foils of its peers. But for a first day, this was a very encouraging demonstration.

1000 update
Artemis Racing has left its mooring and is sailing its second AC72, Big Blue, for the first time.
The team is taking baby steps: light winds, load testing and tuning. We don’t expect to see them foiling today!

0900 update
Artemis Racing is preparing for the first sail of Big Blue, its second AC72, today.

The team plans to spend several hours on San Francisco conducting initial load testing exercises.
We’ll have more as the day progresses.
