There is no fee required. The deadline for nominating a candidate is April 7.
With support from respected watermen in the community, ODKF established the Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame three years ago to honor the accomplishments of Hawaii’s legendary watermen and waterwomen.
The criterion for induction is:
* Keiki o ka aina / Keiki o ke kai
* Sustained outstanding contribution to the sport and the community
* International, national and local accomplishment and recognition
The 2013 Hawaii Waterman Hall of Fame Awards Dinner is Aug. 22 at the Outrigger Canoe Club.
Table sponsorships and individual seats will be sold.
Net proceeds raised will support ODKF’s college scholarships and athletic grants program.
ODKF’s college scholarships are awarded to Hawaii students competing in water sports and volleyball, making ODKF the only program of its kind in Hawaii. Athletic grants are presented to Hawaii residents and nonprofit groups.
In 2012, ODKF awarded $130,950 in scholarships and grants to 61 Hawaii athletes and nonprofit groups.
Since its formation in 1986, ODKF has awarded $1.8 million in scholarships and grants.

ODKF is a public nonprofit foundation whose mission is to financially support the development of individuals and organizations that perpetuate the spirit and legacy of Duke Kahanamoku.
