Flying birthday for Iain Percy at Artemis Racing - America's Cup

Artemis Racing skipper Iain Percy spent his birthday flying high above the water on the re-vamped foiling AC45.

“AC45, foiling wing on my birthday… It was a good laugh,” Percy said. “It’s been a great project by the boys. They’ve just gone and made it (the conversion to foils) happen. I was spoiled to be taken out for a ride on my birthday!’.

“It was an awesome day. The boys have been working hard for a month on this boat,” said helmsman Nathan Outteridge. “The fact that we could get a bunch of the sailors and a few of the designers and go foiling in four weeks is just awesome.”.

In a separate interview, Outteridge said the goal with the AC45 was to, “…learn what we can now so when we go foiling on the big boat we don’t look too stupid. We’re learning as much as we can from the little boats and we’ll convert that to the big boat.”.

Artemis Racing recently returned to San Francisco Bay with its first AC72, but this boat has not been converted to fully foiling.
