JOAQUINA BEACH, Florianopolis/Brazil (Wednesday, July 31, 2013) – ASP International has confirmed that the 2013 ASP World Junior Championships will take place from October 27 through November 5, 2013 at Santa Catarina’s Joaquina Beach in Brazil.
The Floripa/SC ASP World Junior Championships will serve as the 15th edition of the prestigious ASP World Junior Championships, an iconic event that has crowned the likes of Andy Irons (HAW), Joel Parkinson (AUS), Adriano de Souza (BRA), Jordy Smith (ZAF), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Pauline Ado (FRA), Laura Enever (AUS), amongst others.
“The ASP World Junior Championships have an incredible heritage as well as the event being a critical element of the ASP career pathway and the development of our future talent,” Kieren Perrow, ASP Commissioner, said. “We’re very pleased that Brazil is coming on board for 2013 with the Floripa/SC ASP World Junior Championships and I’m really looking forward to seeing who the next up-and-comers are.”
Pooling the very best junior (20-and-under) male and female surfers from around the world, the Floripa/SC ASP World Junior Championships provide an unmatched springboard for competition at the elite ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) and ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT) levels and determine the undisputed men’s and women’s ASP World Junior Champions.
“Brazil has a long history of developing fantastic young surfers and we’re excited to be hosting the 2013 ASP World Junior Championships here,” Xandi Fontes, event director, said. “Florianopolis is a wonderful venue for the world’s best young surfers to compete and we welcome them all to Brazil this coming October.”
The women’s ASP World Junior Championships will take place from October 27 through November 3, 2013 with the men’s ASP World Junior Champions taking place from October 29 through November 5, 2013.
