UIM CLASS 1 STOCK TO LAUNCH IN 2014
Friday, 1 March: Class 1 promoter Nicolò di San Germano has revealed plans to introduce a new racing series, Class 1 Stock, into the UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in 2014.
Wednesday’s meeting in Milan between Nicolò di San Germano, Rod Ross-Smith and business partner Steve McClaren, marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration with British boat builder Ross-Smith Marine to build the new class of catamaran.
The Class 1 Stock catamaran is 11.70m long, 3.30m wide and powered by twin 650hp Ilmor V10 engines, with a predicted speed of over 120mph.
The one-design class with identical hulls and engines will meet the highest UIM safety specifications, and at £250,000 all-in, is very competitively priced.
The builders anticipate eight boats will be ready by the start of the 2014 season and it is planned that the first boat will be showcased as a wild card entry at the final round of this year’s Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.
