Operation Surf 2013: Active Duty and Veteran Servicemen Get Chance to Surf in Santa Cruz

On April 14th, Operation Surf commenced in Santa Cruz. Ten active duty and veteran servicemen were brought out from Brooke Army Medical Hospital, and the Center for the Intrepid in Texas. They spent 4 days in the water, learning to surf with the likes of Richard Schmidt, Flea, Barney, Davis Paskowitz to name a few.

This healing event is put on through a collaborative effort by Operation Comfort, Amazing Surf Adventures, and Richard Schmidt Surf School. As part of their on going rehabilitation, Operation Surf helps our wounded heroes face their challenges, and overcome perceived obstacles. The transformation in these guys from day 1 to day 4 is amazing, and the smiles are infectious.

Twice a year this event happens in Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo. The communities turn out in force to host the soldiers, donating meals, lodging, and transportation, as well as their valuable time volunteering. The results are some very happy men and women who have so bravely sacrificed for their country.
