“Race at the first ever Ocean Racing World Championships!” - Australian Ocean Racing selection

This is the first year the world will see a Surf Ski (Ocean Racing) World Championships, which will be held at Vila do Conde, Portugal 12-14 July 2013.

Australian Canoeing Board Member Robbie Stewart anticipates the event with great excitement.
“this is an historic occasion. It will be the Mandela Cup and Bledislow Cup of paddling”

Selection for the Australian team will take place on the 18th or 19th May, depending on wind, at the Paddle New South Wales Open Water Surf Ski Final 2013 between Station Beach and Fishermans Beach.

Up to five Open Women and five Open Men may be selected for the World Championship event, as well as three in each of the Under 23 and Junior Men’s and Women’s classes.

Stewart says that the World Championship event will allow Australia to again prove our dominance in the sporting world, as we have an exceptionally strong field to select from.

“giving Australia a chance to confirm what we always knew - that Australia is the BEST Ocean/Open Water Surf Ski Country in the world!”
