P1 has announced a record race season this year for its SuperStock powerboats and AquaX personal watercraft brands in both the UK and USA. Details of the 70-race calendar, which makes P1 the world’s largest marine motorsport brand, and a new commercial partnership with the Lycamobile Group were released at a launch event on Friday, 28 March at London’s Royal Victoria Dock.
A 5-venue UK season and expansion of P1’s race programme in the USA has attracted more than 20 SuperStock teams and some 100 AquaX riders. All the action will be broadcast in 24 half-hour weekly TV programmes from May to October domestically in the USA on MAVTV and Fox Sports Florida, reaching over 40 million homes, and in the UK on the region’s premier sports channel, Sky Sports. Internationally, P1 continues to deliver extensive broadcast distribution with more than 50 countries airing all the programmes on major network channels, including Fox Sports, ESPN, Ten Sports and Star Sports.
“Media and broadcast relationships play a key role in building our international presence and in attracting commercial partners” explained P1 Chief Executive James Durbin. “Lucas Oil-owned MAVTV is available on the largest satellite platform in the United States in more than 32 million homes and is a network with its roots deep in the automotive world.” Senior Vice President of Motorsport at Repucom International, Nigel Geach commented: “We have been monitoring P1’s broadcast coverage for a number of years and, with the significant announcement of these latest deals, we would expect the addition of more than 2,000 broadcast hours, showing that the interest and commercial value of the sport is set to increase rapidly.”
P1’s double bill of AquaX and SuperStock racing will feature a number of new, marquee locations this season, including Cardiff and Bournemouth in the UK and Tampa and Jacksonville in the USA. The opening championship event on the international calendar will be on 26/27 April in Daytona, where P1 launched its AquaX series in the USA last year with just 7 competitors, and more than 50 riders are expected next month. Bournemouth, recently named ‘Best UK Coastal Resort’ at the British Travel Awards, will host the first UK race weekend at the end of May, with Cardiff as the flagship event in late July.
The launch of the new P1 race season, staged at a two-day exhibition and open day at London’s Royal Docks, sees the Lycamobile Group become the official mobile partner to Powerboat P1. The deal features flagship brand Lycamobile and travel management business LycaFly and forms part of a broader business partnership between the two companies. A Lycamobile-branded boat will race in both the UK and USA SuperStock Championships.
