ISAF | World Sailing: Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition Qualification System Released

The Qualification System for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition has been released.

The first Qualification Regatta, the 2014 High Liner IFDS World Championships, takes place from 16-24 August 2014 at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, Halifax, Canada.

Ireland played host to 2013 IFDS Worlds

The Squadron will welcome 150 world class disabled athletes across three Paralympic events as they aim to qualify their nation for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition

Heather Robertson, Chair of the High Liner IFDS Worlds said, "We are hosting the North American Championship from 9-11 August so it will be an amazingly busy month at our club. It's a huge undertaking but we are ready after three years of preparation.

"Our commitment to disabled sailing has not gone unrewarded as all three levels of government and the private sector have financially supported these events and helped to make our club a fully accessible venue, including ramps to the clubhouse and docks, paved pathways and a lift in the Marine Activity Center for access to the second story regatta offices.

"I am really proud of the Squadron and what we have achieved. We have a world class race management team who have already devoted untold amounts of time in preparation for the Worlds.

"When we are inundated with great sailors from around the world, we know our membership will be warm and welcoming to all the participants."

Eight Single-Person Keelboat (2.4mR) spots, five Two-Person Keelboat (SKUD18) places and seven Three-Person Keelboat (Sonar) slots will be allocated at the 2014 Worlds.

The remaining places will be taken at the 2015 IFDS Worlds set to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 26 November - 3 December 2015.
