Fireworks over San Francisco Bay tomorrow night will celebrate Independence Day in the United States and lend an exclamation mark to the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 America’s Cup.
Tomorrow’s Opening Ceremony at the America’s Cup Park, at Piers 27/29, begins at noon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the entrance to the park, San Francisco’s newest waterfront space open to the public.
The America’s Cup Pavilion, a 9,000-seat stadium located within the Park, is the setting for the Opening Ceremony, a ticketed event that takes place from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. The ceremony features the crews of all four teams entered in the America’s Cup – defender ORACLE TEAM USA and challengers Artemis Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Challenge.
The day’s program includes cultural performances and exhibitions from each of the four nations, the United States, Sweden, New Zealand and Italy. This celebration of the Summer of Racing is a fun and entertaining way for the entire family to experience the America’s Cup first hand.
Tickets are available now online at www.americascup.com and at the America’s Cup Pavilion Box Office on the Embarcadero. Of the $10 ticket price, $9 is being donated to help support the Healthy Ocean Project.
On Friday, July 5, a fleet parade begins at 11:00 am from Pier 14 and heads up the city front to the America’s Cup Park, at Piers 27/29, where the AC72 catamarans are planned to join in. The parade then continues past Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and Fort Mason and concludes off the Golden Gate Yacht Club and the America’s Cup Village, at Marina Green.
After the parade the teams are scheduled to participate in the AC72 Time Trials, which will be sailed over the five-leg America’s Cup course. The crews will start off the America’s Cup Village and the finish line will be set up off the America’s Cup Park, offering great viewing opportunities at many different locales along the city front. The action should be wrapped up by 1:30 pm, and will be followed by a poster signing session with the teams in the America’s Cup Park.
The AC72 Time Trials will be the Story of the Day posted in the evening on the America’s Cup YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/americascup.
