After 17 years of following offshore powerboat racing, I’m under no illusions about what the sport can become. Combine the expense for competitors with the lack of return for them and their sponsors, the intra-sport political bickering and an often-weak racing product for fans and it is no surprise that the sport remains—at best—obscure.

The fact is offshore racing is a rollercoaster with ups and downs, turns, twists, dips and even the occasional loop. If you want a different ride, you follow a different sport.
