Severe Sea Conditions Forces Postponement Of Today's Practice and Qualifying for the Dubai Grand Prix.

Thursday, 13 December, DUBAI (UAE): Strong winds and extreme sea conditions have forced the hand of the organiser of the Emirates-Dubai Duty Free and Skydive Dubai Dubai Grand Prix to revise today’s programme and postpone first practice and official qualifying.

The decision was announced at this morning’s driver briefing by UIM Commissioner Gordon Sutherland. “Class 1’s operations director Per Carsten Michelsen went out to run the course this morning to evaluate the conditions with the safety officer [Asmund Ness] and the driver’s representative [Mohammed Al Marri]. They advised that on the outside leg the seas were 2-3 metres and whilst racing was not the main issue the conditions make it impossible for the safety and rescue boats to operate effectively and therefore would be unable to provide the essential safety cover that is needed.”

“It is of course disappointing for everyone, but where safety is concerned there is never any compromise.”

The organisers have issued a revised timetable of activities for tomorrow [Friday, 14] with an extended practice session taking place from 09.00h-10.30hrs followed by official qualifying in the Edox Pole Position from 10.45-1145hrs.

Race 1 will take place as scheduled starting at 15.30hrs.
