UPDATE: 1225 hours
The Swedish Youth Challenge won Race 4 of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. Skipper Charlie Ekberg and crew were in a great battle with Lucien Cujean’s Team Tilt crew from Switzerland, but the Swedes eked out a 5-second victory on the 7.21-nautical mile course.
The standings are quite tight, with the top seven crews all within 3 points of each other. The NZL Sailing Team with Emirates Team New Zealand and the American Youth Sailing Force are tied for the lead with 28 points. Team Tilt holds third with 27 points, followed by the Swedish Youth Challenge, Full Metal Jacket and ROFF Cascais Sailing Team, all with 26 points. France’s Next World Energy crew is seventh with 25 points.
Races 5 and 6 are scheduled tomorrow, at 1110 and 1150 PT.
UPDATE: 1145 hours
The ROFF Cascais Sailing Team from Portugal won Race 3 of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup and now holds the overall lead.
Helmsman Bernardo Freitas nailed the start, to the leeward of the pack. ROFF Cascais Sailing Team led at the first mark and all six mark roundings. They completed the 7.21 nautical mile course in 25 minutes, 49 seconds, good for a 28-second victory over Team Tilt from Switzerland.
The American Youth Sailing Force placed third in the race, 37 seconds behind the Portuguese, and New Zealand’s Full Metal Jacket placed fourth, 62 seconds off the leaders.
“Today we pushed a little harder on the start. That was our bad point yesterday,” said skipper and wing trimmer Antonio Mello. “The start was really good, we got to the reach mark 1st and then we tried to make the race as simple as possible. The fleet is very competitive.”
ROFF Cascais Sailing Team leads the standings with 23 points, followed by American Youth Sailing Force, 22 points, Full Metal Jacket Racing, 21 points, and NZL Sailing Team with Emirates Team New Zealand, 20 points.
Race 4 of the eight-race series is scheduled to start at 1150 am PT.

After the first two races, just three points separate first from sixth place at the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup.
The two Kiwi teams sit first and third with France’s Next World Energy sandwiched in the middle in second place.
With the leaderboard so compressed, a couple of top three finishes in the two races today could allow a team to begin to pull away.
Last night, the International Jury allowed redress for Objective Australia, who were plagued by equipment problems on day one. For race one, the team will be award average points it scores in races two through six. This means their score will keep changing until the end of day three as that average number changes.
Weather – high cloud should keep wind within limit. 16-18 knots, current factor +0.3 flood for race one, -0.3 ebb for race two.
