Race 2 of the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race gets underway today from Brest, France.
The second race to Rio de Janeiro will see the crews of the world’s longest yacht race complete their first ocean crossing on the way to the iconic Brazilian city, crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
The departure ceremony begins at 1030 local time (0830 UTC) with racing getting underway at 1330 local time (1130 UTC) today, Monday 9 September.
“The Doldrums is the area where Race 2 is likely to be decided. The teams will have to ensure they maintain concentration and keep the boat moving," explains Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Founder and Chairman of the Clipper Race.
“Between the flat calms and the squalls, the lack of wind will be frustrating at times but how they perform at this stage of the race will be worth watching as it could make a big difference to the final positions.”

The twelve-strong fleet is expected in Rio de Janeiro between 1-5 October where they will be berthed until the start of Race 3 on 11 October.
